The New MERV Rating of filters (Minimum Efficiency Rating Value), has created this question. Our Filters are not tested to this standard (52.2P) because we feel the methodology is flawed. Our filters are tested by an Independent ASHRAE lab to standard 52.1 ARRESTANCE. The 52.1 Arrestance test uses a standard ASHRAE "Test Dust" to challenge the filter. This dust is made up of a variety of particle sizes that are typically found in homes. The particle sizes range from very large, such as human and pet hair to very small, less than the size of bacteria, mold or pollen. The Exact percentage of each size particle captured is NOT calculated, rather the total amount "Arrested" by the filter is measured. The Peak Arrestance for the filters is 94.7%. To be exact the filter is made out of electrostatic polypropylene mesh and polyester media with an extruded aluminum frame, mitered, screwed corners, and galvanized wire mesh screening which is one inch thick. Watch out!!! There is no standard for electrostatic filters. Company's are making filters with cheap imitation media and calling it "Electrostatic".
